DAMEC Counselling
Services
DAMEC provides an outpatient drug
and alcohol counselling service in Liverpool
predominantly for clients from a culturally diverse background. As part of the
counselling team DAMEC currently employs a Vietnamese, Arabic and two generalist
drug and alcohol counsellors. DAMEC
also has some special short term projects based at Liverpool
including a Vietnamese transitions project providing intensive case management for
people from a Vietnamese background being released from prison.

Training and
Education
Training is tailored to the needs of health professionals to
assist them in attaining the knowledge and skills required for working with
culturally diverse populations. DAMEC can assist agencies with advice or the
development of training of training programs.

Research
Research is conducted on an ongoing basis with the aim of
identifying substance usa
patterns and service needs of target CALD communities, issues surrounding
service access and cultural competency and capacity to engage with CALD clients
across the sector. Assistance and support is also provided to other services and
community groups wishing to undertake research in this area. See research for more details.

Projects
DAMEC
undertakes project work with clearly defined outcomes and time frames.
Examples include the Amphetamines information project, African Companions
Project, and Family Support Projects. See current projects for
